So and such (tan)

Regla fácil:

En ingles "So" y "such" se utilizan para hacer que el sentido de un adjetivo se acentue según su significado. "So" se utiliza delante de adjetivos que no tienen sustantivos y "such" se utiliza delante de adjetivos que van acompañados de un sustantivo.

So se utiliza delante de adjetivos y adverbios:

Ingles:

I liked the film, it was so romantic that it made me cry at the end.

Español:

Me gustó la película, fue tan romántica que me hizo llorar al final.

Ingles:

It is difficult to understand Mark because he speaks so quickly.

Español:

Es difícil entender a Mark porque habla tan rapido.

2)

En ingles a menudo se dice so....that y such....that:

Ejemplos

Ingles:

We were having such a good time that we decided to stay longer.

Español:

Lo estábamos pasando tan bien que decidimos quedarnos un poco más.

Ingles:

We were so tired that we fell asleep as soon as we arrived home.

Español:

Estábamos tan cansados que nos quedamos dormidos en cuanto llegamos a casa.

En ingles en estas frases so tiene un sentido diferente:

Ingles:

I didn't expect the weather to be so cold. (as cold as it is)

Español:

No esperaba que el clima fuera tan frio. (tán frio como es)
